ROVER TO BUILD THE NEW BREAKWATERS IN GDYNIA HARBOUR

ROVER GROUP has been awarded a 125 million euro contract for the design and construction of the new breakwater system for the Gdynia Outer Harbour. The design phase will run until the end of 2025 and the work is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028.

The company headed by Alfredo Rodriguez has won the public tender, launched in November last year by the Gdynia Port Authority in cooperation with the Gdynia Maritime Office, against world-class contractors such as PORR S.A. or NDI S.A.

The award of the contract was recently confirmed on July 2nd. The signing of the contract took place on October 2 in Gdynia. The event was attended, among others: representatives of the Gdynia Port Authority, the Gdynia Maritime Office, the Mayor of Gdynia, the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy and the Ministry of Finance. On behalf of the Rover Group, the contract was signed by the Director of Rover Rail José Luis Letón and the Director of the branch in Poland Juan Luis Mangas Murillo.

The project includes the construction of 5 docks with a total length of 2.4 kilometres which will allow for the future expansion of the port, including a new container terminal and a logistics terminal for offshore wind energy.

In addition, work is planned on the existing dykes to reinforce and adapt them for this new enlargement.

The design of these breakwaters is to be developed on the basis of previous experience in the development of Rover Maritime's patented ‘No Waves’ anti-reflective caissons. This typology of anti-reflective reinforced concrete floating caissons makes it possible to reduce the reflection of incident waves inside the harbour basin.

ROVER GROUP has been present in Poland for more than ten years, thus strengthening its position in maritime works in the region, contributing its know-how and experience in this type of projects, by commissioning its own means such as the company's own caisson dock for the manufacture of reinforced concrete caissons. In turn, ROVER has a team of professionals at its disposal for the execution of this project which, among other projects already carried out in the region, is experienced in the construction of the new breakwaters of the emblematic Port of Gdansk in Poland.
