Rover will undertake the construction of the L11 Metro in Madrid
Rover is awarded in JV the extension of Line 11 of Metro de Madrid by 500 million euros.
Rover alongside Acciona Construcción and Dragados will undertake the construction of 6.9 kilometres of tracks with an execution term of 42 months. The work includes the creation of two new stations and an intermodal transport hub.
The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has awarded Rover Grupo, in JV with Acciona Construcción and Dragados, the contract for the "Construction to extend Line 11 of Metro de Madrid. Section: Plaza Elíptica - Conde de Casal", entails an investment of more than 500 million euros with an execution term of 42 months.
The works, which will begin at the end of the year, include the construction of 6.9 kilometres of track between Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal stations (the first of the 33 kilometres to be covered by the future Diagonal Line, from Cuatro Vientos to Valdebebas), two new stations (Comillas and Madrid Río), as well as a new intermodal transportation hub at Conde de Casal. Three stations will serve as interconnections with lines 1 (Atocha), 3 (Palos de la Frontera) and 6 (Conde de Casal).
As the president of Rover Group, Alfredo Rodríguez, pointed out, "it is a very important contract for Rover, both for the great relevance that this extension of the Metro of Madrid represents, and the impact that it can have on the Group internally. In the face of the 2008 crisis, we opted for internationalisation, maintaining and expanding employment and our capacities, and this is undoubtedly an opportunity to reorganise them. This is without doubt an opportunity to reorganise them. Now we have people who are qualified to work back in our country".
The future Diagonal Line will link the southwest and northeast of Madrid, connecting seven transport hubs and strategic points such as Atocha and Barajas airport. The Regional Minister of Transport and Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid, David Pérez, said in the statements made to Telemadrid that "this is probably the most important transport project to be carried out in Europe", highlighting the award of the Line 11 extension as a " historical step".
