Adif Alta Velocidad has awarded the joint venture, formed by Rover and Dragados, the contract for the execution of the new access channel for the high-speed railway integration in the city of Valencia. The project also includes the expansion and remodelling project of the Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla Station.
The project, financed by the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan - Next Generation EU, has an execution period of 60 months and will begin in 2023.
The actions provided for in the contract include both the civil works of the burying of the access channel and the assembly of the track, electrification and the civil works of security and communications installations. It should be noted that throughout the duration of the works, all the usual train circulations will remain in service.
The burying of the railway lines at the entrance to Valencia, includes a new 1.2 km long underground access channel. It´s maximum depth will be 20 meters and it will consist of seven parallel rails tracks.
Among the most relevant units of this project, which reflect the magnitude of the project, there are excavations of more than 2 million m3 of earth, more than 54.9 million kg of corrugated steel, 3.3 million kg of structural steel, 480,000 m3 of concrete, 190,000 m2 of diaphragm walls, 72,000 linear meters of micro piles and so more.
The project also includes the expansion and remodelling of the Joaquín Sorolla station, which involves a new track bed: 10 international gauge [UIC], the conversion of tracks 8 and 9 from Iberian to international gauge, and the execution of two new. Likewise, the passenger station´s lobby will be extended and built in different levels that will give access to the new platforms. In addition, the car park will be expanded to a total area of 8,000 m2.
