Plasser & Theurer PDB-110 ballast profiling machine and Plasser & Theurer USP2005L ballast profiling machine
These machines for profiling, distributing and adjusting ballast significantly increase operating profitability by minimising the amount of ballast ultimately used. They do this by recovering surplus ballast with a sweeper unit and then redistributing it.
These machines can operate on both conventional and international gauge track, and are fitted with crown and shoulder ploughs, ballast sweeper unit and storage hopper.
The crown plough distributes ballast correctly on the track to prevent areas from having too much or too little ballast. The shoulder plough defines the track ballast profile and thus reduces the risk of track buckling. The sweeper unit which removes surplus ballast from sleeper and track tie surfaces prevents ballast stones from being displaced by the high velocity of trains passing over them.
