Rover will build 6.9 km of track, two new stations and an exchanger in UTE for 500 million euros.

The Government Council of the Community of Madrid has awarded to Rover Group, in UTE with Acciona Construcción y Dragados, the contract for “Construction of extension of Line 11 of Metro de Madrid.” Section: Elliptical Square – Count of Casal”, which implies an investment of more than 500 million euros with a time frame of 42 months.

The works, which will start at the end of the year, include the construction of 6.9 kilometers of tracks between the stations Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal (the first of the 33 that will cover the future Diagonal Line, from Cuatro Vientos to Valdebebas), two new stations (Comillas and Madrid Río), as well as a new exchanger in Conde de Casal. Three stations will serve as interconnections with lines 1 (Atocha), 3 (Palos de la Frontera) and 6 (Conde de Casal).

As the president of Rover Group, Alfredo Rodríguez has pointed out, “this is a very important contract for Rover, both because of the great importance that this expansion of the Madrid Metro implies, and for the impact it can generate internally in the Group. In the face of the 2008 crisis, we bet on internationalization by maintaining and expanding employment and our skills, and this is certainly an opportunity to reorder them. We have people ready to return to our country.”

The future Diagonal Line will link southwest and northeast of Madrid, connecting seven transport interchanges and strategic points such as Atocha and Barajas airport. The Councillor for Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, David Pérez, has emphasized in statements to Telemadrid that “probably the most important work to be carried out in Europe in terms of transport”, highlighting the award of the extension of Line 11 as a “historic step”.
