Xátiva-La Encina section inaugurated, fundamental for the Mediterranean Corridor
Minister Raquel Sánchez, has inaugurated the railway section Xátiva-La Encina (Valencian Community), fundamental for the Mediterranean Corridor and executed in UTE by Rover.
This 21.5 km section of conventional width in which Rover has carried out the installation of track and catenary, together with the section between L’Alcudia de Crespins-Moixent, form the variant by which all rail traffic will be diverted while work is being carried out to adapt to the international gauge of the double-track route that so far joins Xátiva and the Encina Node.
This last adaptation, for which the new section is essential, implies, as the minister has emphasized, “a revolution of state and intra-community mobility that will connect, in one hour, Alicante and Valencia and, in two hours, Alicante and Castellón; saving half an hour to the best current times in both trips. Our estimate is that the number of travellers between Alicante and Valencia will be multiplied by three, benefiting more than a million people.”
The presentation of this new milestone of the Mediterranean Corridor has been held at the station of Xátiva, where the minister was accompanied by the delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, María Pilar Bernabé; the president of ADIF, María Luisa Domínguez; and the commissioner of the Corridor, Josep-Vicent Boira.
