Rover to build new harbour dykes for Gdynia port
ROVER GROUP has been awarded the contract for the design and construction of a new system of sheltering docks at Gdynia Outer Port for an amount of €125 million. The design phase will be developed until the end of 2025 and completion of work is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
The signing of the contract took place on 2 October in Gdynia. The event was attended by, among others: representatives of the Port Authority of Gdynia, the Maritime Office of Gdynia, the mayor of Gdynia, the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy and the Ministry of Finance. On the Rover Group side, the contract was signed by Rover Rail Director Jose Luis Letón and Poland Branch Director Juan Luis Mangas Murillo.
The project includes the construction of 5 levees with a total length of 2.4 kilometers that will allow the future expansion of the port, which include a new container terminal and a logistics terminal for offshore wind.
Additionally, action is planned on existing levees for their reinforcement and adaptation for this new expansion.
The design of these shielding dams will be developed building on previous experiences in developing Rover Maritime’s patent for anti-reflective crates, “No Waves”. This type of anti-reflective, reinforced concrete floating drawers allow to decrease the reflection of the incident wave inside the harbor.
ROVER GROUP, present in Poland for more than ten years, thus strengthens its position in maritime works in the region, contributing its knowledge and experience in this type of projects, through the implementation of its own means such as the Cajonero Dike owned by the company, for the manufacture of reinforced concrete crates. For the execution of this project, ROVER has a team of professionals who, among other projects already carried out in the region, have experience in the construction of the new shelters of the emblematic Port of Gdańsk in Poland.
