Rover Maritime, the marine infrastructure division of Rover Group, has successfully completed construction work on the new 1,700-metre-long sheltered docks at the iconic Port of Gdańsk (Poland), the Baltic Sea’s third largest cargo port.

This is a project commissioned by the Port Authority of Gdańsk which has had an investment of more than 114 million euros (114,846,273 €). Rover Group has employed more than 300 people during its direct and indirect execution, totaling 1.5 million working hours.

The design of the dykes was carried out taking advantage of previous experiences in the development of the patent for anti-reflective drawers, “No Waves” by Rover Maritime This type of floating casks made of anti-reflective reinforced concrete allow to reduce the reflection of the incident swell inside the dock. The construction of the dikes consisted of the execution of 38 crates for which Rover Maritime mobilized to Poland its Floating Dock, bringing to the local port system a new technology unknown until then in the country.

Through the Floating Dock, the metallic coffering slipped the friolera of 486 linear meters in height, equivalent to a building of 162 floors, thus forming the 38 above-mentioned floating cabinets of reinforced concrete 48 meters long, 10 of manga and 13.4 meters of prop each of them.

The new dikes in turn are made up of a mantle of damper protection filters and a main protective layer of concrete tetrapods. The superstructure is made up of prefabricated elements of reinforced concrete for both the external backrests or protective walls, as well as the cantile beams where the bollards and defenses necessary for the docking of ships are installed.

The mega project executed by Rover Group, has required dredging of 421,000 m3 of sand, the use of more than 80,000 m3 of reinforced concrete, 690,000 tons of mantle sheeting, 17,700 tetrapods weighing between 5 and 8 tons and more than 1,100 prefabricated pieces of reinforced concrete to make up the entire project.

Rover Group, with its subsidiary RoverPol, is currently implementing 10 projects in Poland, mainly in Gdansk, Szczecin and Lublin. Since Roverpol was established in the country in 2014, it has been growing and establishing itself as a consolidated company in the country, thanks to its railway and maritime specialties. Currently, new projects with long-term prospects are being tendered in Poland.
