New access to Badajoz Airport
The project involved improving accessibility to Badajoz Airport by upgrading the BA-023 road. The BA-023 connects at its beginning and end with the N‑V (Madrid–Badajoz) via two roundabouts, skirting Badajoz Airport to the north and providing access from both the east and west. The total length of the section executed under this contract (Lot 2) was 5.1 km, starting at the western junction with the N‑V at chainage km 390+360, near the town of Villafranco del Guadiana, and extending to the Balboa–Airport junction.
The objective was to improve accessibility to a key infrastructure such as Badajoz Airport, serving as a hub for industrial and business activity in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. This was achieved by upgrading the technical characteristics of the access roads, enabling safe and comfortable vehicle circulation.
The works primarily consisted of widening and improving the alignment (6/7 cross-section) and upgrading pavement characteristics. Additionally, as the road runs through an irrigation district, the widening works required the relocation and reconstruction of several kilometers of irrigation channels connected to the existing system.
