RoverPol is making progress on the construction of the new breakwater for the outer harbor of the Port of Gdynia
Our subsidiary in Poland, RoverPol, is making good progress on the first phase of construction of the breakwaters for the new Gdynia Outer Harbor. The project includes the design and construction of 2.5 km of breakwaters, representing an investment of 125 million euros by the Gdynia Maritime Office, in collaboration with the Port Authority. A total of 48 reinforced concrete caissons will be built on a foundation platform and anchored toward the site to form the breakwater. In addition, the project includes: 300,000 m³ of dredging; the placement and leveling of 25,000 m³ of subgrade; and the placement of 30,000 m³ of breakwater to protect the subgrade on the seaward side.
The existing structure will also be reinforced by installing a sheet pile wall along the breakwater and a layer of breakwater rock. Construction of the caissons has already begun; as of June 2026, 5 of the 48 reinforced concrete caissons that will form the new breakwater have been completed. A key feature of the caissons is the anti-reflective technology used to reduce the reflection of incoming waves inside the port basin.
Purpose of the New Breakwater
The investment by the Gdynia Maritime Office, in collaboration with the Port Authority, aims to expand the port. The new breakwater will create a wave-protected basin, paving the way for the construction and subsequent operation of the Outer Harbor. Meanwhile, the existing breakwaters are being reinforced.
