Construction and commissioning of zero‑discharge wastewater treatment plants in the municipalities of La Bóveda de Toro, Fuentes de Ropel, and Montamarta (Zamora)

The purpose of the works is the implementation of new infrastructure for the conveyance and treatment of wastewater generated in the municipalities of La Bóveda de Toro, Fuentes de Ropel, and Montamarta (all in Zamora).

In general terms, the following elements have been constructed:

  • Coarse solids pit at the WWTP inlet with a lifting screen.
  • Raw water pumping station to raise the flow to the treatment level.
  • Imhoff tank for sedimentation.
  • Rotary screen (rototamist) for waste removal.
  • Constructed wetlands for filtration.
  • Discharge outlet feature for the treated water.
  • Control building, housing the main motor control panel, telecontrol system, and storage area.
  • Photovoltaic plant for self-sufficient power supply.

At the Montamarta facility, a 1,530 m PVC-O pipeline has been constructed to connect the town’s current discharge point to the new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).
