Construction Project of the A‑58 Motorway. Trujillo–Cáceres–Badajoz Motorway. Section: A‑66 – Ayuela River
The project involves the extension of the A‑58 motorway, which currently connects Trujillo with Cáceres, towards Badajoz, with commissioning scheduled for summer 2028. The new alignment will improve connectivity between the two provincial capitals and enhance the efficiency of road transport, thereby reinforcing territorial cohesion in Extremadura and contributing to more balanced and sustainable regional development. It will also serve as a strategic alternative to the A‑5 motorway for traffic coming from Portugal towards northern Spain and Europe.
The section covered by this project has a length of 13,500 meters and begins with the remodelling of the existing roundabout south of Aldea Moret (where future southeast and west urban ring roads of Cáceres are planned). The section ends just before a planned junction with the N‑523 road, near the Ayuela River, marking the start of the next subsection of the original A‑58 project.
From this point, a connection with the A‑66 motorway is designed as a cloverleaf interchange with collector roads on both highways. In this area, the A‑58 features a reduced central median of 2 meters. Meanwhile, the N‑523 is realigned to the east of its current route via an overpass crossing the A‑66, connecting independently to the Aldea Moret roundabout. The new A‑58 alignment runs across the plains of Cáceres west of the N‑523, avoiding impacts on existing built‑up areas.
At chainage PK 6+200, Interchange 2 is located, designed as a dumbbell (diamond with roundabouts) layout, including a service road approximately 500 meters long, connecting to the N‑523 via a T‑junction with central turning lanes. The crossing over the Salor River is achieved through a viaduct with a span of 75 meters. The section ends just before the A‑58 changes alignment relative to the N‑523, at chainage PK 13+500.
