Project for the improvement and modernization of the energy and hydraulic efficiency of the irrigation infrastructures of the Valdecañas Irrigation District (Cáceres)
The purpose of the PROJECT FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND MODERNIZATION OF THE ENERGY AND HYDRAULIC EFFICIENCY OF THE IRRIGATION INFRASTRUCTURES OF THE VALDECAÑAS IRRIGATION DISTRICT (CÁCERES) is to enhance energy efficiency, reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, and improve the environmental and economic sustainability of the irrigation facilities of the Valdecañas Irrigation District through the implementation of photovoltaic self-generation systems.
Current energy consumption is very high, resulting in significant economic costs, which are borne by the irrigators and farmers in the Valdecañas irrigated area.
The construction of these four solar plants will reduce the consumption of electricity from the grid by enabling self-generation of renewable photovoltaic energy, aiming for maximum energy savings. This will directly contribute to the sustainability of irrigation both from an environmental perspective (reduction in energy consumption and CO₂ emissions) and from an economic standpoint (lower operating costs).
The actions are focused on Sectors I, II, III, and V of the Valdecañas Irrigation District. The area affected by the Project amounts to 4,016.39 hectares.
The works consist of the construction of four photovoltaic solar plants, with capacities of 356 kWp for Sector I, 1,056 kWp for Sector II, 693 kWp for Sector III, and 693 kWp for Sector V.
