RoverPol progresses with the construction of the new breakwater for Gdynia’s Outer Port

Our subsidiary in Poland, RoverPol, is making good progress on the first phase of construction of the breakwaters for the new Outer Port of Gdynia. The project includes the design and construction of 2.5 km of breakwaters, representing an investment of €125 million by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, together with the Port Authority. A total of 48 reinforced concrete caissons will be constructed on a foundation berm and floated into position to create the breakwater. In addition, the project includes: the execution of 300,000 m³ of dredging works, the placement and levelling of 25,000 m³ of foundation berm material, and the placement of 30,000 m³ of rock armour to protect the berm on its seaward side.

The existing breakwater will also be reinforced through the installation of a sheet pile wall along the length of the breakwater and a rock armour layer. So far, construction of the caissons has begun, and since June 2026, 5 of the 48 reinforced concrete caissons have been completed. One of the characteristics of the caissons is the anti-reflective technology used in order to reduce the reflection of incident waves inside the Port basin.

The investment by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, together with the Port Authority, aims to expand the port. The new breakwater will make it possible to develop a basin protected from wave action, enabling the construction and subsequent operation of the Outer Port. In turn, the reinforcement of the existing breakwaters together with the placement of rock armour is intended to protect the existing infrastructure from wave action and minimise wave reflection.
